Privacy policy

Last updated 29 October 2026

This policy explains what information MagLab and this website collect, and what happens to it. MagLab is made by Ryan Soanes, United Kingdom, who is responsible for your information (the “controller”). Contact: support@maglab.co.uk.

The short version

  • Your photos, designs and templates stay on your computer. MagLab doesn’t upload them anywhere.
  • MagLab has no usage tracking. It only contacts the internet to check your licence, to see whether there’s a new version, and to reach the shops and servers you set up in its automation features.
  • This website uses no cookies unless you allow them, for statistics and to see which of our Google, TikTok, Reddit and Meta ads lead to a purchase. We don’t use them to show you ads, but TikTok, Reddit and Meta may use what they receive to choose the ads they show you on their own sites and apps. Without cookies, Google still gets a short message from each page, so it can estimate how many purchases our ads lead to.
  • Payments are handled by Polar, our merchant of record, under its own privacy policy.

This website

Like every website, the companies that host it and deliver downloads see each visitor’s IP address and browser details, to deliver pages and protect against abuse. They keep these logs for a short time.

We count visits with Umami, a privacy-friendly service that doesn't use cookies, doesn't follow you across sites, and only shows us totals (such as how many people visited the pricing page or clicked Download).

Cookies and statistics

The website only sets a cookie if you allow it. On your first visit, a banner at the bottom of the page asks.

If you choose Allow cookies, five services are switched on:

  • HeyCatch records the pages you view and what you click on them, along with your browser, device, IP address and the page or link that brought you here. It shows us which pages help and where people get stuck. Its cookie, and your browser’s storage, hold a random ID so that repeat visits can be told apart from new visitors. The cookie lasts a year.
  • Google Ads sets a cookie so that if you came here from one of our Google ads and then buy MagLab, the purchase is credited to that ad. That’s how we know which ads are worth paying for. Google receives the address of each page you view here, your IP address and browser details, and which ad you clicked, under its own privacy policy. We tell Google not to use any of it to personalise the ads you see. Its cookie lasts 90 days.
  • TikTok sets a cookie so that if you came here from one of our TikTok ads and then buy MagLab, the purchase is credited to that ad. TikTok receives the address of each page you view here, which plan you click Buy on, your IP address and browser details, and which ad you clicked, under its own privacy policy. TikTok may also use this to choose the ads it shows you on TikTok. Its cookie lasts 13 months.
  • Reddit sets a cookie so that if you came here from one of our Reddit ads and then buy MagLab, the purchase is credited to that ad. Reddit receives the address of each page you view here, which plan you click Buy on, your IP address and browser details, and which ad you clicked, under its own privacy policy. Reddit may also use this to choose the ads it shows you on Reddit. Its cookie lasts 90 days.
  • Meta sets a cookie so that if you came here from one of our Facebook or Instagram ads and then buy MagLab, the purchase is credited to that ad. Meta receives the address of each page you view here, which plan you click Buy on, your IP address and browser details, and which ad you clicked, under its own privacy policy. Meta may also use this to choose the ads it shows you on Facebook and Instagram. Its cookie lasts 90 days.

If you choose Don’t allow them, none of them sets a cookie. HeyCatch, TikTok, Reddit and Meta aren’t switched on, and Google only gets the short messages described below.

Google’s tag is on every page, even before you choose. Until you allow cookies, it doesn’t set or read any. Each time you view a page or buy MagLab, it sends Google a short message: the time, the page address and the page that linked here, your IP address and browser details, and that you haven’t allowed cookies. It takes out any ad click ID first. Google uses these messages to estimate how many purchases our ads lead to, under its own privacy policy. We tell Google not to use them to personalise the ads you see.

Whichever you choose, your browser keeps your answer (in its own storage, not a cookie) so you aren’t asked on every page. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing deletes the cookies.

If you came from one of our ads with a discount code in its link, your browser keeps the code (in its own storage, not a cookie) until you close the tab, so the Buy buttons can add it to your checkout.

Buying MagLab

Polar sells MagLab on our behalf as the merchant of record. Polar processes your payment, billing address and tax details under its own privacy policy. We receive the details needed to provide your licence and support: your name, email address, country, what you bought and the status of your licence key. We never see your card details.

The MagLab app

Your work stays local. Photos, layouts, templates, calibration and settings are stored on your computer.

Licence checks. When you activate MagLab, and about once a day while it’s online, MagLab contacts Polar to check your licence. It sends:

  • your licence key and this computer’s activation ID
  • a label for the computer: its name and operating system (for example “Office PC (Windows)”), so you can recognise it in your account
  • a random installation ID, MagLab’s version and the name of your operating system

New versions. When it starts, and twice a day while it’s running, MagLab reads a small file on this website that says which version is the latest, so it can tell you when there’s a new one. It sends nothing else: like any visit to a website, our host sees your IP address and the request. You can switch this off in MagLab’s Settings → Tell me about new versions.

Automation (Pro). Order feeds, webhooks, hot folders and the local API only connect to the services, folders and addresses you set up. The data they handle (such as your customers’ orders) goes between your computer and those services, not to us.

Emails to us

If you email us, we use your message to help you.

Who else handles your information

  • Polar sells MagLab for us and runs the licence checks.
  • Railway hosts this website, and bunny.net delivers the downloads.
  • HeyCatch records website statistics for us, and Google, TikTok, Reddit and Meta tell us which of our ads lead to a purchase, only if you allow cookies. Without cookies, Google only gets the short messages described under “Cookies and statistics”.
  • Our email provider stores emails you send us.

They only use your information to provide their service. Some of them are based in, or store data in, the United States. When information leaves the UK, it’s protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as standard contract clauses.

Why we use it

  • To provide what you’ve bought: your licence, updates and support.
  • To see how the website is used, and which of our ads lead to a purchase, if you allow cookies. This is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with Cookie settings.
  • To estimate how many purchases our Google ads lead to, from Google’s short messages when cookies aren’t allowed. This is our legitimate interest in knowing which ads are worth paying for.
  • To meet legal duties, such as keeping tax and accounting records.
  • To protect MagLab and this website, for example from licence misuse or attacks on the site. This is our legitimate interest.

How long we keep it

  • Purchase and licence records: while your subscription is active, then six years for tax and accounting.
  • Support emails: up to two years after the conversation ends.
  • Website and download logs: a few weeks at most.
  • Website statistics (HeyCatch): while we use HeyCatch, and deleted within two months after we stop. The cookie expires after a year.
  • Ad measurement (Google Ads): kept by Google under its own policy. The cookie expires after 90 days.
  • Ad measurement (TikTok): kept by TikTok under its own policy. The cookie expires after 13 months.
  • Ad measurement (Reddit): kept by Reddit under its own policy. The cookie expires after 90 days.
  • Ad measurement (Meta): kept by Meta under its own policy. The cookie expires after 90 days.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Email support@maglab.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
